Position Summary: 

NextNav is launching a groundbreaking location service for smartphones, IOT, and other devices – an ability to determine floor level altitude service across the country – a capability that does not exist at scale anywhere today! No longer constrained by legacy “flat earth” technologies, applications and users will be able to determine floor-level altitude, which is essential for navigation, user context and relevancy and many other applications that are used indoors. NextNav’s is the highest precision Z-Axis solution proven in the marketplace today and a person joining this team will have the ability to define the space.

You will architect and design cloud infrastructure that is highly-available, secure, geo-graphically redundant, scalable and meets/ exceeds SLAs. The infrastructure you design and develop will serve Web-Scale volumes of end user requests for Z-Axis services for various mission critical and other commercial applications/use-cases. You will work with Product, Business, Engineering and Operations teams within the company to develop the infrastructure. You will lead the cloud infrastructure engineering team to deploy, manage and maintain the Z-Axis Cloud infrastructure

• Architect and Lead NextNav Cloud service Platform to meet business, security, compliance and operational needs
• Work with development, product management and technical infrastructure teams to accomplish solutions and business objectives
• Develop solutions in concert with development teams to meet product/service needs
• Define execution plans based on developed solutions and guide teams to executing the plan
• Hands on Infrastructure as code development and deployment in AWS of the solution.

Desired Skills & Experience Required:
• 15+ years' experience in IT Industry, 4+ years in AWS
• In-depth understanding of core AWS services and industry proven design patterns
• Infrastructure background and strong in security & networking
• AWS Solution Architect certified
• Experience driving discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation
• Hands-on experience leading the design, development and deployment of business software at scale or current hands on technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization experience
• Experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile/iterative methodologies required
• Scripting and/or coding skills
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Information Security or equivalent experience required
• Great communication (written and oral) and evangelization skills

• AWS Associate or Professional or specialty certification or ability to get certified within two months of hire.
• Knowledge of AWS Compute, Storage, Networking, Database, Management tools, Security, Identity and Compliance services
• Strong track record of implementing AWS services in a variety of distributed computing environments
• Leading highly-available and fault-tolerant enterprise and web-scale software deployments
• Firm understanding of cloud platform security controls, network boundary controls and related toolsets
• Firm understanding of cloud governance, cost management and AWS account management best practices
• Experience with developing web applications using cloud native services, - eg Route53, WAF, API Gateway, EC2/EB, ELB, EBS, Elastic Cache, RDS, S3, MSK, SNS, SQS
• Experience managing data center operations, including data assurance, monitoring, alerting and notifications.
• Experience with streaming data and events from on-premise to cloud
• Experience with AWS CI/CD chain for deploying, testing and running software in the cloud
• Experience with containers and container orchestration - eg ECS / EKS
• Experience with declarative infrastructure (infrastructure as code) – eg Terraform, Ansible, Python
• Infrastructure automation through DevOps scripting (E.g. shell, Python, Ruby, Powershell), Terraform/Vault
• Configuration management using CloudFormation, Chef & Puppet or similar tools
• Strong practical Linux and Windows-based systems administration skills in a Cloud or Virtualized environment
• Experience managing data center operations, including data assurance, monitoring, alerting and notifications
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges
• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
• Any experience with Azure is plus
