Position Summary: 

NextNav is launching a ground breaking location service for smartphones, IOT, and other devices – an ability to determine floor level altitude service across the country – a capability that does not exist at scale anywhere today! No longer constrained by legacy “flat earth” technologies, applications and users will be able to determine floor-level altitude, which is essential for navigation, user context and relavency and many other applications that are used indoors.

This position will lead the Information Technology function for NextNav with responsibility for developing and maintaining the IT/Engineering infrastructure and IT/Engineering service management systems. The position will set the systems operation standards and implementation guides for the Enterprise network, data center/system, hosted services, cloud-based services, service desk, telecom and desktop support.

IT/Engineering Infrastructure and Applications

  • Define and maintain optimal IT/Engineering infrastructure, datacenter, cloud architecture
  • Develop, implement and update infrastructure, architecture and technology roadmap
  • Establish a consistent delivery methodology / standards across the Enterprise
  • Support ITSM SLA metrics for Availability, Performance and Utilization
  • Operate all IT/Engineering services using best practices for change management, availability management, facility management (IT components), and IT continuity management
  • Deploy infrastructure and applications (new and changes)
  • Manage all outsourced infrastructure services including their SLA’s
  • Implement Service management practices for optimal delivery of SLA’s
  • Create a flexible and cost effective strategy for infrastructure utility services (outsource model)
  • Work with PMO and IT/Engineering internal customers to complete inputs for the supply and demand management process, IT/Engineering Investment Management prioritization decisions, and to finalize the release management calendar
  • Daily support of Engineering and Corporate users and manage an IT help desk solution

IT/Engineering Security

  • Lead business and internal organizations in designing and implementing appropriate security controls within their products and services.
  • Conduct and then maintain a detailed review of existing security goals, identifying critical assets, and gathering business and technical requirements. Based on this information, complete an in-depth analysis of the security infrastructure, including network topology, network devices, and security devices, and the processes that are used to manage them.
  • Conduct internal and external Security Posture Assessments using company resources and independent outside resources to test the effectiveness of security measures put in place-gathering intelligence from these audits and enacting the necessary change to effectuate improvements.
  • Provide expertise and industry best-practice definition towards the effective management of IT/Engineering security as a repeatable business process, rather than simply a technical or data protection challenge.
  • Evaluate the capabilities of network infrastructure to protect identified business critical assets from a specific set of threats. Provide a set of resulting recommendations to remediate the identified security gaps. These recommendations should include improvements to topology, protocols, device configurations, and security controls.
  • Formulate and deploy long-term strategic plans for enabling efficient, secure and cost-effective information security controls and compliance to regulatory and contractual obligations of the company as they impact the information systems and operations. 

Desired Skills & Experience 


Education, Experience, Skills and Attributes:

  • Minimum 10 year's enterprise experience, at least fvie of which must be related to leadership of Enterprise Architecture, Network and Information Security functions and programs.
  • Manager with Hands on experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, consultative, coaching, communication, and negotiation skills including excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain security concepts to a diverse stakeholder base.
  • Broad business and technical knowledge/background of multiple technology areas, including but not limited to: networking, application hosting, security, desktop computing, voice, video and messaging.
  • Demonstrated understanding of security principles, best practices, architectures, tools and processes in the areas of:
    • Access control systems and methodology
    • Identity management and authentication systems
    • Network Access Control List and Firewall policy management
    • Directory services design
    • Virus, BOT, and DDOS detection and prevention
    • Application security and systems development life cycle
    • Encryption technologies
    • Audit and event management
    • Business continuity, availability and disaster recovery
    • Operational security controls
  • Ability to translate technical information into formats for a variety of internal or external audiences not well versed in the details of the technology; ability to translate complex security topics into business-level meaning and terms.
  • Ability to understand legal and regulatory requirements and business drivers and priorities.
  • OSS/NMS/EMS Platforms: VMWare VSphere, Paessler PRTG, Cisco Network Assistant, Solarwinds Web Help Desk and Kiwi Syslog Server
  • Distributed OS Platform Support - Including; Linux, Windows, Solaris, Cloud Implementations, and VMWare
  • Database Technologies – Including; Oracle, MS-SQL, and MySQL
  • Storage Technologies – Including: NETAPP and Netgear and industry standard replication approaches.
  • Backup Technologies – Commvault and processes surrounding the automation of backup implementations
  • Network Technologies – Cisco ASX Firewall, VPN and network switches.
  • Disaster recovery process and execution experience
  • Distributed systems implementations related to Application and Database Replication strategies
  • SaaS services – ADP, Concur, Office 365 Monitoring and Administration, BOX, and OKTA
  • IaaS services – Amazon Web Services (EC2), Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and Amazon Cold Storage Services (Glacier) 

Physical Demands

  • Occasional mobility within an office environment
  • Routinely sitting for extended periods of time
