3D location, delivered at scale

Building the future of location on AWS infrastructure

As NextNav delivers vertical location at scale, the importance of real-time results, high availability, and strong security is paramount.  That’s why NextNav processes all of its location data from its Pinnacle and TerraPoiNT solutions in the AWS cloud.  NextNav is an AWS Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Partner listed in the AWS Partner Network (APN).

Use cases

NextNav’s vertical location and PNT solutions are deployed across a wide variety of market verticals, bringing innovative 3D capabilities to mobile apps, data services, and government agencies.

Situational awareness for public safety

Situational awareness for public safety

Situational awareness is critical for first responders in complex emergency scenes.  Intrepid Networks uses NextNav Pinnacle as part of its Intrepid Response for FirstNet app to provide real-time location data which saves lives and improves first responder safety.

Improving customer experiences

Improving customer experiences

Retailers and restaurants need to delight their customers with seamless user experiences.  Gimbal uses NextNav Pinnacle to deliver highly accurate, real-time data on customer arrival times.

Delivering amazing location-based games

Game developers need to differentiate themselves in the competitive marketplace for location-based games.  NextNav partners with Unity to deliver easily integrated vertical location capabilities for developers.

PNT for urban air mobility

PNT for urban air mobility

Drones and other urban air mobility platforms require secure, highly available service for position, navigation, and timing (PNT) that penetrates entire metro areas.  NASA uses NextNav TerraPoiNT for its CERTAIN urban drone program, preparing the future of air mobility with reliable PNT infrastructure.

Augmented reality and the “metaverse” need a strong foundation in location technology to deliver meaningful experiences in urban areas.  NextNav partners with Epic Games to deliver vertical location through its Unreal Engine.

How NextNav <br> uses AWS

How NextNav
uses AWS

AWS gives NextNav the flexibility it needs to meet growing customer demand in several verticals.  Regulatory requirements and privacy statutes require NextNav to process vertical location data from different users in separate, walled-off environments.  In AWS, this is as simple as creating services in parallel instances through Amazon ECR.  AWS Elastic Beanstalk also helps NextNav orchestrate vertical location across these different environments, providing consistent performance to every customer.

NextNav also uses AWS IoT to process and manage inbound data from altitude stations.  The responsiveness and resilience of AWS IoT allows for high performance even in rapidly changing barometric conditions – a critical driver of the accuracy that drives value for NextNav’s customers.

Data analysis plays a key role in the resilience and accuracy of NextNav’s vertical location service.  NextNav is constantly poring over a complicated stream of sensor and environmental data to ensure high performance at scale.  AWS MSK is critical to this data analysis, providing the infrastructure to gather and process meaningful insights from a wide variety of data sources.
